Scheduled to be unveiled this April

The newest piece in the Gulf Breeze art project is on its way to completion, and the artists behind The Gulf Breeze Arch, Peter King and his wife Xinia Marin, plans on unveiling this work to the public this April.
A new park space is currently being cleared on Shoreline Drive by the Gulf Breeze Rec Center to house the arch. The park space will include a sidewalk, which has already been installed, new benches and indigenous landscaping to attract butterflies and birds.
Originally, the arch was planned to be placed by the boat launch at Shoreline Park, but was later changed to keep space available for overflow boat trailer parking during peak season.
“It’s going to create a whole new environment in that area,” said King of the new park.
Funding for the project comes completely from private donations, and King said area residents have shown generous support. “The project is coming along beautifully,” said Dr. Stephen Zieman, who is behind the Gulf Breeze art projects, and is helping King with fundraising. “Art adds value to the community.
Zieman spoke of the many hidden costs to complete such a detailed project. From engineering to creating the park that will house the arch, associated costs will add to about $200,000. Generous donors have already supported half of the cost.
Those who are interested in donating to The Gulf Breeze Arch, can do so by contacting the City of Gulf Breeze at (850) 934- 5100.
